A vessel is the most demanding environment there is for AV. Hard surfaces, metal bulkheads, engine vibration, humidity and salt, and strict fire-safety and evacuation requirements all make ordinary office or club equipment unsuitable. Our solutions are engineered for exactly these conditions.
Vessel types
- Cruise ships — main theatres, clubs, atriums, cinemas, open-deck performance areas.
- Ferries — public address, announcements, background music and information displays in lounges.
- Yachts — private cinema, saloon AV, zoned background audio, integration with vessel control.
Why acoustics on board matter more than they seem
Spaces on vessels are small, enclosed and surrounded by hard, reflective materials. Untreated, speech turns to echo and music to mush. We address acoustics at the source — controlling reflections and using directed coverage — so intelligibility and sound quality stay high in every cabin and hall.
Acoustic standards and design targets for cinemas and halls
For cinemas and event spaces we work to measurable targets: controlled reverberation time, even coverage and an appropriate ratio of direct to reflected sound. Every solution is backed by an acoustic calculation, not guesswork.
Concert-grade sound reinforcement
For main halls and performance areas we design concert-quality reinforcement — with adequate headroom, controlled directivity and an even level across the whole seating, suitable for live acts and amplified shows.
Background music (BGM) and local zones
For public spaces, restaurants, lounges and corridors we install distributed background audio by zone, each zone carrying its own level. Even, low-level sound everywhere, with no hot or dead spots, run from simple presets.
Cinemas and private cinema on board
For permanent cinemas and private screening rooms we provide light control, the right projector or screen, and calibrated sound, so the experience matches a good land-based room — in a space with limited height and shape.
Video projection: when it beats LED
Projection is often the better choice for controlled-darkness rooms — cinemas, screening rooms, saloons — where it delivers a large image without the weight, power draw and heat of a big LED wall. Room brightness and purpose drive the choice.
LED screens: fixed, motorised and stage
For bright spaces, atriums and stages we use LED. We offer fixed walls, motorised systems for transformable stages and stage screens — each accounting for weight, power, heat dissipation and service access.
Staged stage lighting
For performance halls we design stage lighting — from shows to architectural scenes — with DMX control and power planning coordinated with sound, video and stage mechanics.
Overhead stage mechanics and automation
Where needed, we include overhead mechanics and stage automation — with safety interlocks and class coordination — so scenery, lighting and screens move safely and repeatably.
Control systems and AV-over-IP
All systems are brought under one control logic, often over AV-over-IP, so the crew runs sound, video and lighting from one point — reliably and without a technician on hand.
PA/GA, announcements and safety link
Public address and general alarm (PA/GA) is a safety system on a vessel. We design intelligible announcements across every zone and the link to safety and evacuation systems in line with requirements.
Why Acoustic Delta
Work from the acoustics outward, one team for design and delivery, equipment chosen also for serviceability across Europe, and documentation the owner keeps. The result is a system built for the marine environment, not an adapted land solution.
Stages of cooperation
Survey and capture of the space, acoustic calculation and AV concept, equipment specification, supply and installation, and commissioning with the crew. Each stage is documented, so the next step starts from a known basis.
LED, projection and motorised screen: a short comparison
| Solution | Where it fits best | Constraints |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed LED screen | Main theatre, club, atrium, open deck, bright spaces. | Weight, power, heat, service access, budget. |
| Motorised LED | Premium shows, transformable stages, immersive theatre. | Complex mechanics, safety interlocks, maintenance, class coordination. |
| Fixed-frame projection screen | Permanent cinema, screening room, private cinema. | Requires light and projector control. |
| Motorised roll-up screen | Multi-purpose lounge, conference room, yacht saloon. | Flatness below fixed frame; needs height and mechanics calculation. |
Frequently asked questions
Can ordinary AV equipment be used on a vessel?
As a rule, no. The marine environment (vibration, humidity, salt, fire and safety requirements) demands equipment and installation engineered for it; a land solution is not reliable there.
What is better for a ship cinema: LED or a projector?
It depends on the room. In a controlled-darkness cinema, projection is often better; in bright spaces and atriums, LED wins. Room brightness and purpose drive the decision.
Can an existing system be upgraded without a full rebuild?
Often yes. We first assess the existing state and then propose an upgrade scoped to the space and budget.
