Theatres

Drama and multi-purpose theatres where sound, lighting, rigging and stage machinery must work together for live performance.

A theatre is the most demanding venue type because every discipline meets on one stage. The sound system must handle a wide dynamic range — intimate dialogue to full music — with even coverage, stage monitoring and the flexibility to re-patch for each production. We design the main system with fills and delays so the front rows and the balcony hear the same balance, and we plan the infrastructure (tie lines, patch points, control positions) for fast changeovers between shows.

Performance also depends on what surrounds the sound: stage lighting with proper rigging and control, fly bars and curtains, and the acoustic behaviour of the room itself. We coordinate these so a lighting bar does not block a loudspeaker, a reflector does not foul a fly line, and the room supports both speech and music. Where needed we design variable acoustics so the same house can serve a play and a concert.

Communications and safety run underneath all of it — intercom, cue systems, and rigging engineered to performance-rigging standards with proper working-load limits. The deliverable is a coordinated stage where every system supports the show and the crew can work safely and quickly.
